Here again we see Jesus breaking down the role of tradition and religion in favor of relationship with Himself.
Sometimes, you will find pastors and well meaning christians using verses like these to say there are no rules, all we have to do is follow Jesus and there is freedom in that. I agree with that to a point. There is freedom in Jesus, and He has given us more freedom in him. However, when you read the Gospels more you will realize the law Jesus left, if you want to call it that, is actually more stringent than the previous law.
Check out Matthew 5:28 “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
That is much harder, so, when we say God has given us freedom to do whatever we want, I am not sure that is a correct assessment over these verses.
