Matthew 11

I love this verse, I think often times we quote this verse to people going through a tough time hoping to show them that life will be much easier. However, if you read closely you will see Jesus says his yoke is easy and his burden is light. No matter which way we look at it, putting on a yoke and getting ready to do work, is not going to be easy; its work.

When I think about this verse I think about our lives and the work that God has called us to do. Not just sharing the gospel, but fighting our everyday battles in the trenches, even some of the easier ones. He wasn’t telling us if we follow him that it would make it all go away. He was telling us that if we go with him he will show us the correct way and ease our burden.

He said. “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart…” Isn’t that a good thing? Anytime we have someone teaching us and directing us, we want them to be gentle and kind with us. There is nothing worse than a teacher who is harsh and will come down on you if you don’t get the lesson. And remember, when you are yoked to someone it is almost impossible to go a completely different direction. With Jesus leading all we have to do is follow the direction he is wanting us to go and listen to his gentle advice as he directs us.

Where is God calling you to go? What is He calling you to do? As we start this year and really begin to emphasize reaching out to our community just know that you are not alone. He will help you to speak to those around you. He will show you which way you need to go. Follow his gentle leading today.
